Mrs. Ross' first grade students are learning about open and closed shapes and being precise in math!
La Rosa & Sons are bringing a Farmers' Market to HCCD beginning on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from a local supplier!
The stand will be located on 4th Street near the Charter House. (Please don't park in the traffic flow zones.)
Look for a flier to come home today or tomorrow. Hope to see you there!
Susan Hinkelman is the first face of Hickman Community Charter School District that people see when they enter the campus. She creates a warm and welcoming environment for anyone coming to our school and district. Susan is an amazing school secretary and has the ability to do at least four thousand things at one time. Besides being the principal’s confidante and support, Susan is also everything to everyone on campus every day. To parents, Susan is the go-to person when it comes to finding out about all-things Hickman. To teachers, Susan is the person that helps them stay on track with the business ins and outs of working in a school. And to the students...Susan knows each and every Hickman student personally and talks to every student as an individual. Whether she is serving as the school nurse and giving a sick student “tummy crackers” that miraculously heal or talking to a student who is in trouble waiting to see the principal, she makes every child feel loved. In fact, most kids think Mrs. Hinkelman is the one in charge at Hickman Elementary School...and she is! Our school and district are blessed to have this compassionate and loving person on staff!
Congratulations, Mrs. Hinkelman!
Mrs. Watson is an exemplary teacher. She is a teacher that considers the whole child when designing and executing lessons with her students. She makes it a priority to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the learners in her classroom. She respects individual differences in the learning styles of the students without compromising her classroom objectives. Whenever I walk through her room, Mrs. Watson is always interacting with her students, whether individually, in small groups or the entire class. Her students are excited about learning and it shows on their faces! (Oh, the fun the students had the day they were able to dissect owl pellets!) She is an exceptional teacher who continuously reflects on her teaching practices and is always striving to create lessons that are the best for her students and exactly what they need to help master the standards.
In addition to being an outstanding instructor, Mrs. Watson is an invaluable part of our staff. She is always willing to do whatever it takes and makes the best out of any situation that arises. In fact, one of the reasons I enjoy being around Mrs. Watson is that she always looks for the positive in any circumstance and maintains an attitude of flexibility that is a necessity for any teacher. Her colleagues highly respect her opinions and seek her input on a regular basis and she works collaboratively with everyone on staff.
Mrs. Watson’s students love her and they know she loves them. She invests in her students’ lives and is always concerned for their emotional, psychological, academic and physical well-being. Students trust Mrs. Watson and gravitate to her because of her compassionate demeanor. It always makes me smile when I hear Mrs. Watson refer to her students as “friends”-- “Come on, friends,” she says, “Do your best work!” She works continually to improve students’ self-esteem and self-control through positive encouragement, consistent discipline, and student self-reflective practices.
HCCD is blessed to have this incredible teacher on our staff! Congratulations, Mrs. Watson!
